British FM Arrives in Tehran to Reopen Embassy in Iran


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) British foreign secretary Philip Hammond Sunday arrived in Tehran,heading a political-economic delegation to hold talks with Iran's high-ranking officials and to reopen his country's embassy in Iran.
During his two-day visit to Iran, Philip Hammond will meet Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, President Hassan Rouhani, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.
He will also hold meetings with Iran's Minister of Petroleum Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and Governor of Central Bank of Iran Valiollah Seif.
This is the first visit by a British foreign secretary to Iran since 2003.
British embassy in Tehran has been closed since 2011, after being stormed by demonstrators opposing tightening the sanctions on their country against the background of the Iranian nuclear program. Iranian Embassy in Britain was closed at the same time.
