(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) strongly condemned the Israeli aggressive policy, including the killing of Palestinians, the confiscation of their land and demolition of their homes, the intensified settlement expansions, the apartheid wall, and the ethnic cleansing against Arab residents in East Jerusalem.
In a press release following its emergency meeting in Ramallah city, the West Bank, on Saturday night, the Committee offered condolences to the families of the martyrs who were killed by the Israeli forces, notably the baby Ali Al-Dawabsheh and his father who were burnt to death by extremist Jewish settlers.
The mother of the baby and his elder brother Ahmad are struggling against the burns resulting from the crime of "the herds of Jewish terrorists," according to the statement read by PLO Secretary-General Saeb Erekat.
The meeting of the Committee, attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Rami Al-Hamdallah, highlighted the need to take Israel to the International Criminal Court for the burning of the home of Al-Dawabsheh in Doma village, Nablus governorate.
The Committee held the Israeli government fully responsible for the safety of the Palestinians in the occupied territories, including the prisoners at the Israeli jails, and reiterated the call on the international community to provide protection to the Palestinians under the Geneva Conventions of 1949.
It paid tribute to the former detainee Mohammad Allan who pressed his point home and won his liberty three days ago after a two-month hunger strike.
On the inter-Palestinian reconciliation, the Committee promised to continue its efforts to end the political divide between the Fatah-controlled West Bank and the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, with a view to strengthening the Palestinian ranks "in the face of the Israeli hostile designs." It underscored the need to form a national unity government as early as possible in order to speed up the post-conflict reconstruction in Gaza and set the stage for general elections.
It drew attention to the ordeal of the Palestinian refugees in Syria who were forced to flee the conflict and face death by drowning into the Mediterranean waters while attempting to reach Europe.
The United Nations must shoulder its responsibility for finding a permanent solution to the catastrophe of the Palestinian refugees and back up the efforts of the UNRWA in this regard, the statement added.
