UAE forces liberate British hostage in Yemen

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) UAE forces in Aden have rescued British hostage Douglas Robert Semple kidnapped by Al-Qaeda in Yemen since February 2014.
Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan informed British Prime Minister David Cameron of the operation's success in a phone call on Saturday, said Emirates News Agency WAM in a statement on Sunday.
The hostage was rescued and safely moved to Abu Dhabi aboard a military plane yesterday, said the agency, adding that this operation is part of the UAE's fight against terrorism and a representation of its strong ties with the UK.
The 64 year old hostage was working as a petroleum engineer in Yemen when he was kidnapped in Hadhramaut Governorate. Douglas Robert was received by a number of Emirati officials and UK Ambassador to the UAE.
The British citizen will head back to the UK once all necessary medical checkups are complete.
