Kuwait Wins Gold, Bronze Medals In Fencing Tourney


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Kuwait's national team on Friday won a gold medal and a bronze medal in sabre and epee contests of the second day of the Arab fencing championship, juniors and youth, currently held in the Jordanian capital.

Kuwaiti fencer Yousef Al-Shamlan won the gold medal in sabre after defeating his Saudi competitor 15-11, while Yousef Al-Kharshan earned the bronze medal after losing to his Saudi counterpart 13-15.
The Kuwaiti team's performance and results in the second day of competitions are excellent on sabre level and good on epee level, Ali Fadhel, team's coach, stated to KUNA.

The championship is strong and has a number of good teams, Fadhel said, commending Kuwaiti fencers' performance and efforts in boosting their country's name and flag high at this Arab event.
The Kuwaiti team has won two bronze medals in the foil contests in the first day of the championship, which kicked off Thursday and continues for six more days.

The team includes 24 fencers in the three categories, sabre, epee and foil.
Up to 200 fencers from Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Lebanon, Palestine, Algeria and Bahrain are taking part in the tournament.
