Qatar- Vodafone boosts network in Al Wakrah, Al Wukair

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Vodafone is pressing ahead with network enhancement in Qatar, upgrading network cell sites in Al Wakrah and Al Wukair and achieving a faster and stronger network experience for customers.

The company launched a network upgrade initiative last January to offer customers superfast voice and data services, wherever they are.

The upgrade covered 30 sites in Al Wakrah and Al Wukair, uplifting 3G capacity by around three times and 4G capacity by around four times.

Vodafone added 13 new 4G LTE sites to Al Wakrah, covering 43 percent more of the area, and providing better LTE and data coverage.

It also expanded 15 sites with HSDPA Dual Carrier, uplifting 3G speeds to 43.2 Mbps.

All 4G sites in Al Wakrah and Al Wukair have been uplifted to 4G+ capacity.

Ramy Boctor, Chief Technology Officer, Vodafone Qatar, said: "This is the next big step in our network evolution which is to be completed by October, to offer customers one of the state-of-the-art infrastructures in the world. This reiterates our position as a leader in technology and innovation and steadfast commitment to provide reliable and fast data and voice services to everyone in Qatar."

The company has become one of the first telecom operators in the world to have the top speed of up to 375 Mbps live on its network, which provides almost four times the speeds of 4G. This was completed after it tested and rolled out three -band LTE carrier aggregation on its sites on the Corniche and Qatar Science & Technology Park, with additional sites in Doha to be progressively ready by November.

Following the launch of 4G+ network in May and a nation-wide network enhancement initiative with an investment of over QR500m, Vodafone increased 3G and 4G coverage and capacity which produced a better customer experience in voice and data services.

In April, it concluded the first phase of network evolution by upgrading every network site in Doha with latest technology which means 65 percent of network is new.

The company also installed 134 new outdoor sites, 42 indoor, 290 4G outdoor and 25 4G indoor sites. With this, Vodafone has increased 3G and 4G coverage, doubled 3G capacity, tripled 4G capacity and tripled data capacity for better user experience.

In July, Vodafone began the second phase of network evolution which will see similar improvements to spread across Qatar

At the end of the initiative in October, Vodafone will have overhauled the network to offer better experience in the whole country.
