Saudi- Fish boycott call to tackle high prices

(MENAFN- Arab News) JEDDAH: Members of the public in the Eastern Province have launched a campaign to boycott fish in response to price hikes.
The campaign 'Let it rot' was launched on social networking sites a local publication reported. Users said that the campaign started on Tuesday and would last for four days.
They said that there was no justification for such high prices which was caused by the control and monopoly of expatriates and major companies at the fish market.
They claimed that these parties hoard fish to push up prices and also export large quantities to some Gulf states mainly Kuwait. An appeal has been launched for the municipality to intervene.
They also called on the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to intervene and implement a special auction for local consumers separate from the one for export companies at the central fish market in Qatif.
