Indian authorities place Kashmiri separatist leaders under house arrest

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) According to sources in the state government, authorities in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir have placed Kashmiri separatist leaders under house arrest in the state's summer capital, Srinagar.

Authorities in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir have placed Kashmiri separatist leaders under house arrest in the state's summer capital, Srinagar, sources in the state government told Sputnik on Thursday.

The decision follows the issuing of an invitation by Pakistan's High Commission to the Kashmiri separatist leaders to meet with Pakistani Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz, who is set to visit New Delhi to hold talks with Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on Sunday, according to local media reports.

The talks between the two countries are expected to go ahead despite the invitation controversy; similar incidents have served as justification for disrupting bilateral talks before, local media reported.

In 2014, India canceled talks between the foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan after Pakistan initiated a meeting with the separatist leaders, stating that the involvement of separatists would be an "unacceptable interference" in the negotiations.
