Kuwait- Impose Charges On Remittances: MP

(MENAFN- Arab Times) MP Khalil Abdullah has stressed the need to impose charges for the remittances transferred overseas by expatriates in Kuwait, reports Aljarida daily. In a press statement, he insisted that 'transit charges' must also be imposed because the country is frequently used for air and land transits. MP Khalil indicated that the state properties must be analyzed because the rental value of some of these properties is almost zero compared to their market value and the value of their investment and commercial counterparts.

He said the government should check its expenditures and revenues, and assess the industrial areas particularly those with the private residential parts such as Shuwaikh Industrial Area in order to invest these areas based on modern criteria for meeting the needs of the country, especially since Kuwait has announced an expected deficit in this year's budget. Meanwhile, Head of parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee MP Hamad Al-Harshani stressed the need to approve the Gulf Security Pact due to its importance particularly in consideration of the current dangerous situation of the region, reports Aljarida daily.

In a press statement, Al-Harshani said the rapid development of incidents in the region necessitates joint security coordination among the GCC countries for defending the region and the security of their nations. He indicated that any delay in the approval of the security pact will end up embarrassing the country, as the pact has been already been approved by all other GCC countries, adding that the lawmakers are in support of the security pact as they consider it as a fortress for the safety of GCC countries from the threats of terrorists.

Al-Harshani affirmed that the current governmental- parliamentary cooperation will help in easily achieving a number of goals which will serve in protecting the country through the approval of necessary laws. He commended the role played by the parliament in realizing achievements in various aspects, insisting that the government should cooperate positively by achieving the executive bylaws of the laws that the National Assembly has approved for implementation.

Al-Harshani said he hoped the government will follow the example of the parliament and review its priorities and correct its mistakes of the previous phase. He extolled the significant role played by Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah in handling the security file and curbing any attempts aimed to manipulate with the country's security and stability.
