Oman- NCSI's comprehensive family survey begins today


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) will start a four-year comprehensive family survey from Wednesday across the country. It will cover various aspects of family life and include accompanying surveys that will be carried out for an additional year or more.

The survey will cover 1220 families every month in all governorates and 14460 annually.

The main survey aims to map demographic policies by following up Omani and expatriate workforces and their contributions to the nation's economic activities a release stated.

In addition it seeks to identify the factors linking education with the labour market. The survey will follow up on issues related to job creation the unemployed and the labour market.

It will study the social and economic backgrounds of the employed and the unemployed particularly those who have never got jobs. The survey will also identify the reasons behind employee turnover. NCSI has said that a consensus has emerged on population houses and establishments which will be used as sample for the survey

In addition to the comprehensive family survey NCSI will carry out three more surveys during the year including one on the unemployed and other on the employee turnover. These two surveys will be confined to Omani families only.

The centre has said that the two surveys will provide important indicators and data about the employed and the unemployed through factors like sex age educational level marital status and their distribution across the governorates.

The two surveys will also identify the time spent by the unemployed looking for work. In addition they will identify the type of jobs sought and the preferred sectors.

The third survey on domestic tourism aims to map the number of Omani and expatriate tourists the objectives of their trips and their spending patterns.

The centre had earlier organised a training programme for 43 researchers and 14 supervisors who will carry out the survey.

NCSI has said that data collected from Omani and expatriates will be kept confidential and will be used for statistical purposes only
