Trio accused of blackmailing man threatening to kidnap his daughter


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)A jobless Egyptian man 35 and his two friends - an Emirati businessman 46 and a Syrian PRO 35 - faced charges on Monday for allegedly blackmailing a businessman and threatening to kidnap and kill his 8-year-old daughter unless he paid them Dh35000.

The trio has been charged with threat and blackmail in the Court of First Instance.

The businessman a 56-year-old Syrian said in the public prosecution investigation that the first accused identified as M.A. used to work at a bank but was terminated after he embezzled money from his accounts.

"At around 1.30pm on October 27 last year M.A. phoned my friend as he knew we would be together most of the times".

In his statement to the prosecutor the complainant said that M.A. then talked to him and threatened to kidnap and kill his 8-year-old daughter unless he paid them Dh35000.

The businessman added that M.A. made the same threats together with the two other defendants about five times.

A police sergeant said he coordinated with the complainant's friend a 36-year-old Syrian to arrest M.A.

The witness met M.A. at a cafe in Deira. M.A. was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers after collecting Dh30000 from the complainant's friend.

The hearing has been adjourned to August 30.
