Oman's IWP USD1b water projects see fierce competition of bidders

(MENAFN) International heavyweights specializing in water are bidding for licenses to develop two major Independent Oman's Water Projects (IWPs) at Sohar and Barka in the Sultanate.

A total of seven firms led by prominent water utilities have submitted their offers for the two water projects, Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) said in a statement.

Together, the two facilities represent the single biggest procurement of new water desalination capacity in the Sultanate costing a ballpark USD1 billion, say experts.

The Barka IWP, with a contracted desalination capacity of 281,000 cubic meters per day, will be the largest. The Sohar IWP will be sized at 250,000 cubic meters per day of desalination capacity.
