Turkey's unemployment rate drops by 9.3 percent in May


(MENAFN) Turkey's month-on-month unemployment fell slightly by 9.3 percent in May from 9.6 percent in April, but this is still more than the May-2014 amount of 8.8 percent.

Total unemployed people in Turkey aged 15 years and over was 2.78 million, a surge of 238,000 in the May-2015 period compared to the same period in 2014.

According to latest data, the employment rate went up marginally over the year to 46.9 percent in May, while the labor force rate remained at 51.7 percent, with 29.86 million people in work.

Women in work jumped to 32.1 percent, marking a 1.1 percentage point increase over the year to May. The rate for men stayed the same at 71.8 percent.
