KEO Drub Kuwait Energy HPI Win

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Despite Pearl Clinic's Norman Lopez hauling 35 points in the first game against Azkals 35 in the First Season 35+ Super Fathers League, the Clinic went down 74-80 in the PBLK basketball conferences Friday afternoon at the Khaitan Sports Club. Azkals guard Ernest Domingo was 8 for 13 from the field and added six assists while his team mates forward Ding On added 15 points and Reyes pulled down 15 rebounds and added 10 points to his side's slate in the Super Fathers Division clash.

Azkals took an early 2-point lead in the first quarter, and then pulled away again in the second to finish with a 10-point lead midway into the game. But a Pearl Clinic rally ignited by Lopez early in the third saw Clinic pull within four points with 1:02 still left to play in the round. Stalwart defender Del Rosario picked up his fifth foul and left for an early shower late in the third quarter with still 3:40 left in the quarter, making way for Sennido to partner with Norman Lopez for swift midcourt runs. Rustia contested a shot and missed, grabbed an offensive rebound and followed with a secondchance score bringing a boost of energy as Azkals rallied to extend their lead. Domingo powered Azkals to a 56-52 lead with 9 points on 7-for-8 shooting in the third. He was 4 for 4 from 3-point range in the game totally.

He made his first three shots, all from behind the arc during the first 3 minutes. Domingo stole the ball from Marvin and converted it into a breakaway dunk, then intercepted a pass by Pascasio to set up a breakaway layup by De La Cruz 13 seconds later. That sent Azkals cruising ahead in the final stretch. Azkals attempted 11 free throws in the third quarter and made 6, but didn't get to the line again until Delay converted one of two with 36 seconds left in the final quarter. Domingo's layup and free throw sent Azkals surging 4 points ahead. His 3- pointer with 30 seconds left gave Azkals a 6-point cushion at the close of the fourth after a 25-25 run that brought the overall score to 80-76 despite Lopez hauling 35 points for the Pearl Clinic. Elsewhere in the inter-company division, Kris Fernandez scored 21 points, Sander added 14 and 12 rebounds as the Kuwait Engineering Office (KEO) recorded their victory with a 76-61 drubbing of Kuwait Energy. Efferen Valera had 26 points and Ryan Bunaoy added 13 in the Kuwait Energy loss.

Kuwait Energy turned the ball over 18 times leading to 23 KEO points. In other games in the inter-company series, HPI Hyperians won 87-75 against N.A.S Matar Warriors in a foul-riddled game that saw the Hyperians rebound from two points down in the opening quarter to take a commanding lead in the second on the efforts of Rio Bumagat who finished with a game-high 29 points. The Warriors rallied in the third and fourth but could only manage a claw back of some of their deficit. Otep partnered with Bumagat in their barrages for the surge to finish the game 12 points ahead, at 87-75. Otep added 15 points to the Hyperians' slate. Hamoud Mesina and Onin Yumul between the two stars scored 29 points to pace the Warriors' loss.
