UAE- Burglars caught after going back to villa for lost phone

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)Three men allegedly broke into a TV producer's villa attacked him and stole belongings worth Dh3000 a Dubai court heard on Monday.

The three defendants - two Emiratis 22 and 24; and a Pakistani farmer 20 - were caught when they returned to the villa to pick up a smart phone one of them had dropped while attacking the producer. They have been charged with burglary and trespassing into others' property in the Court of First Instance.

On April 21 around 5.40am the 39-year-old TV producer from New Zealand was on the upper floor of his villa when he saw a masked intruder. "I screamed at him so he fled downstairs. I chased him and found two other men inside my house. One of them was holding a hammer."

The three men managed to escape after stealing what they could. But one of them left behind a smart phone which the owner found on the floor.

"I told my South African neighbour about the incident and we waited together for the police to arrive.

In the meantime a car stopped outside the villa and a man stepped out. He said he was the one who broke into my villa and showed some belongings he stole" the complainant told the prosecutor.

A police sergeant said in the public prosecution investigation they received a complaint about a burglary incident in Umm Suqeim-2.

"When I arrived at the villa I found three men in a car parked outside. When I asked them what they were doing they claimed they were looking for their dog. But they failed to give the dog's description."

The police officer found a hammer and a knife under the driver's seat in their car. Another patrol was called and they were taken to Bur Dubai police station. The court adjourned the hearing to September 3.
