Thailand's economy progresses slightly in Q2

(MENAFN) Thailand's economy grew marginally in the second quarter but remained below expectations, putting more pressure on the military government to achieve more as it enters its second year in power.

Southeast Asia's second-largest economy nurtured 0.4 percent in the second quarter, barely raising from 0.3 per cent in the previous quarter, but surpassed the 0.2 percent pace expected by economists.

Growth was 2.8 percent on an annual basis, same as expected but down from 3 percent in the January-March period, reports showed.

"Entering the new fiscal year starting from October the government has pledged to start disbursing the budget immediately," said an economist at Maybank Kim Eng.
