Eurozone economic growth plunges in Q2

(MENAFN) Economic growth in eurozone received a hit in the second quarter as France stagnated and Italy's economy suffers, plus dwindling investment in Germany.

Progress in the 19-country currency bloc plunged to 0.3 percent, failing to meet the 0.4 percent quarterly growth that would have matched the first six months.

In Germany, growth speeded slightly to 0.4 percent in the second quarter from 0.3 percent in the first, but still below expectations for a 0.5 percent increase as weak investment was to blame.

In a positive sign for Germany's economic position, numbers released last week showed industrial orders recorded their biggest gain since early 2011 in the second quarter due to a strong foreign demand.
