Kuwait- 'Corruption Has Negative Impact On Labor Unionism'

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Head of Kuwait Workers General Federation Salem Shabib Al- Ajmi said violations and corruption have negatively affected the movement of labor unions, so the federation intends to send a letter to the Public Authority of Anti-Corruption next week to look into the financial and administrative affairs of five syndicates and professional unions due to the violations they have allegedly committed, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Al-Ajmi pointed out corruption has had a negative impact on labor unionism, indicating the board of director membership in some syndicates seem exclusive to certain personalities as if the position is inherited. He said this practice deprives some members of the general assembly the right to vote or contest the board of directors election. He disclosed the federation's board of directors has taken the first step towards reform by opening the door of nomination for members who have been prevented from doing so for quite a long period. If such reform steps continue, there will no longer manipulations of internal regulations and laying down of implausible conditions for those who want to run in the board of directors elections.

The State Audit Bureau has called the attention of the Health Ministry regarding the remaining stocks of unused and expired medicines and medical products with an estimated value of KD894,000, reports Al-Jarida daily. In its report, the bureau asked the ministry to take into consideration the demand for medicines based on actual need as part of efforts to rationalize the general expenditures. Responding to the bureau, the ministry explained some medicines and medical products, especially those for cancer treatment, are acquired as per the request and actual need of patients. The ministry said certain medicines cannot be used due to the death of some patients, indicating a few pharmaceutical psychotropic substances were disposed in coordination with the concerned authorities
