Turkey's Coast Guard saves 493 migrants in Aegean area


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Turkey's Coast Guard has found almost 500 migrants along the country's western coast on Saturday.
The Turkish General Staff said in a statement that 493 people were found when Turkish forces discovered boats carrying migrants in areas up and down the country's western shores. They were on their way to Greece.
Migrants were found in the provinces of Mugla, Aydin, Izmir plus the north-western provinces of Balikesir and Canakkale, in addition to the southern region of Antalya.
Since August 10, the Turkish Coast Guard has rescued nearly 3,000 migrants, mostly Syrians, in the Aegean Sea. Migrants saved since the start of the year hit 33,180.
