Police foil attempt to smuggle drugs in food cans

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Anti-narcotics agents Saturday arrested six people who were attempting to smuggle outside the country drug pills hidden in cookie tins, according to the Public Security Department (PSD).

The PSD media centre said in a statement that Anti-Narcotics Administration personnel had followed up on a tipoff that a group of people were intending to prepare an amount of drugs and conceal it inside food boxes in order to be smuggled outside the Kingdom.

An anti-drug team conducted an investigation after gathering information about the suspects, and were able to confirm the data and identify those involved as well as the house being used to prepare the contraband, said the statement.

It added that security forces raided the house, located in the northeastern governorate of Mafraq, and arrested six people who were inside, adding that a search of the house led to the discovery of 35,000 drug pills stuffed inside biscuit boxes that had been repacked.

The case was referred to the State Security Court's prosecutor general, the statement said.
