Qatar- Summer fest focussing on kids: Visitors

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A number of visitors to the ongoing Qatar Summer Festival say it is a good effort to boost tourism in the country but lacks variety and is more focused on children than people of different ages.

Also, the number of venues at which the festival is being held is quite few and there is not enough public awareness about the event due to lack of adequate publicity.

Faisla Al Dulaimi, a Qatari, said he went shopping once and was surprised to see some events taking place as part of Qatar Summer Festival (QSF).

"It was then that I came to know something known as QSF is there and is being held," Al Dulaimi said in remarks to local Arabic daily Al Raya published yesterday.

"I think there is a severe lack of publicity about the event in the local media (TV, radio and newspapers), so many people don't know about the QSF."

He said QSF is a good idea particularly for those among fellow citizens who haven't travelled overseas for vacationing.

Another visitor, Ahmed Al Hashmi, said he came from Oman just to visit the QSF. "I think the biggest weakness of the event is that it is restricted to some shopping complexes only. It should be held in open places like public parks. Also, what we need aside from more venues, are more activities. There are only few activities right now," said Al Hashmi.

Yet another visitor, Mubarak Al Shraim, agreeing with Al Dulaimi, said the event should have been well-planned and more publicity should have been done to attract more people.

"I think there is the need to increase more activities for children, like children's games," he said.

Another problem is that not all shopping complexes have been included among the venues of the festival. "City Centre, for example, is not the venue," he lamented.

A highlight of the festival this year is that regular raffle draws are being held to distribute prizes, said still another visitor. "This is a new and welcome addition to the festival activities this year," he said.

One visitor who gave his name as Hani Saeed said the summer festival was more of a children's attraction.

"There is hardly anything for adults at the QSF. Actually, the organisers should have planned activities in such a way that people of different age groups could have been able to attend and enjoy," said Saeed.
