UAE- Registration for FNC polls begins today

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)Registration begins today for candidates hoping to run in the Federal National Council's 2015 elections. The National Election Committee has set up registration centres in all seven Emirates. In Dubai registration will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The centres will remain open until Thursday August 20.

Registration is open to any member of the UAE's 224279 member electoral college which includes 53568 members from Dubai 90408 from Abu Dhabi 27455 from Ras Al Khaimah 31766 from Sharjah 10887 from Fujairah 6090 from Ajman and 4105 from Umm Al Quwain.

To register each electoral college member needs to be a literate citizen permanently residing in the UAE aged not less than 25 (born earlier than October 2 1990) and should be of "good character and reputation" without a criminal record unless they have been "rehabilitated" in the eyes of the judicial system.

Those registering are required to bring their Emirates ID cards family book and a certificate of good conduct addressed to the National Election Committee as well as a non-refundable registration fee of Dh1000 in cash.

The NEC will announce a preliminary list of candidates on August 23 and a final list will be announced on August 31.
