Germany to pull Patriot batteries from NATO ally Turkey

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Berlin Shawwal 30 1436 Aug 15 2015 SPA -- Germany will pull out two Patriot missile-defence
batteries and 250 soldiers deployed in south-eastern Turkey to thwart
attacks from war-torn Syria dpa quoted a Defence Ministry spokesman as saying
Saturday.

NATO member Turkey had requested the batteries from the military
alliance to shield it against cross-border missiles and Syrian
government military aircraft.

NATO in 2013 stationed five Patriot missile batteries about 100
kilometres from the Syrian border. Germany and the United States
provided two batteries each while the fifth came from Spain.
