U.S. retail sales up by 2.4 percent in July


(MENAFN) U.S. retail sales rose by 0.6 percent in July from June, with the latter delivering zero growth, and so last month's sales picked up, going up 2.4 percent compared to July-2014.

All categories recorded increase in July's sales, excluding electronics and appliance stores sales, general merchandise stores sales, and food and beverage stores sales.

Retail sales acts as the main engine of economic activity, representing one-third of consumer spending, and due to an expected lower energy prices, improved labor market in the coming months, officials predicts spending to rise.
