Qatar- Pakistani community marks 69th Independence Day

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Pakistanis in Qatar celebrated their country's 69th Independence Day with zeal and fervour yesterday.

It being a Friday, and braving the current spell of heat and humidity, a large number of Pakistanis, including women and children, turned up at their embassy in Diplomatic Area for the celebration.

Sadia Gohar, Third Secretary, hoisted Pakistan's national flag as verses from the Holy Quran were read out. After flag-hoisting, refreshments were served to participants.

Messages of Pakistan's President and Prime Minister were also read out.

President Mamnoon Hussain said the 69th Independence Day was being marked with new zeal and vigour and with conviction that this day would be the harbinger of political, economic and social stability.

The government decided to eliminate the menace of lawlessness, terrorism and extremism in various cities and areas and as part of the decision, the Pakistani army and law enforcement agencies are performing their responsibilities in an effective manner, restoring peace in the country, he said.

In his message, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said the Poet of the East, Allama Iqbal, visualised the dream of a free and independent state for the Muslims of South Asia.

He said the Founder of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, transformed the dream into reality through a dynamic movement.

"Dear countrymen, today is a day of self-accountability, too. We will have to ponder over as to what mistakes we committed in the past that we have lagged behind our contemporary nations," said Sharif.

"We will have to decide either we would ever remain caught up in disarray, chaos and sloganeering, or will focus our energies on Pakistan's movement and progress by demonstrating absolute unity and unanimity," he added.
