UN lauds UAE for pledged Yemen aid


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)The UAE's quick response to an appeal for aid to help civilians in Yemen has won accolades from a top United Nations official.

The UAE pledged to handover over $81million (Dh300m) to be administered by the Emirates Red Crescent towards relief operations in Yemen soon after the UN made an appeal for $1.6 billion to help war-torn Yemen.

The UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O'Brien said: "I welcome the pledge made by the UAE towards the Humanitarian Response Plan for Yemen and the generosity of the Emirati people. In response of the appeal I hope others will follow suit".
