(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) U.S. Ambassador to Jordan Alice Wells announced a JD3.3 million donation for hospitals and health centers affiliated to the Ministry of Health throughout the Kingdom.
During a visit to Irbid Wednesday, the ambassador, Irbid Governor Saad Shihab and Irbid Mayor Hussein Bani Hani, discussed scopes of cooperation to face challenges resulted from the large influx of Syrian refugees to Jordan and ways to support small and medium-projects in the northern governorate.
She looked into the U.S Caritas Coach Education Program (CCEP), applied in the Latin Patriarchate in Irbi's city of Huson, and gave a variety of books in support of the CCEP that provides educational opportunities to some 1,500 Syrian refugees and 450 Jordanian students at the cost of JD1.5 million funded by the U.S. government.
The U.S. Ambassador provided Princess Badea Teaching Hospital for Obstetric & Gynecology, and Princess Rahma Hospital for children with medical equipment and devices, donated by the United States, through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Wells praised Jordan's efforts to provide services for Syrian refugees, despite its limited resources and the lack of support of the international community organizations concerned with refugees.
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)'s Representative to Jordan, Andrew Harper, and hospitals department director in the Health Ministry, Ali Saad, thanked the U.S. government for its support of Jordan's health sector.
