Is your vehicle fit to run in peak Dubai summer temperatures?


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)An ongoing traffic campaign is sensitising motorists about driving in peak summer temperatures.

The campaign which is being conducted by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Ministry of Interior reminds motorists to ensure their vehicles are routinely maintained and tyres are road-worthy.

The campaign which will run till the end of August also advocates exercising cautious driving attitudes. "Summer awareness events ... focus on four awareness events: Road travellers and truck drivers; tyre safety; periodic (maintenance) ... of vehicles; and tips for driving ... (when tired)" said Husain Al Banna Director of Traffic at RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency.

"The summer awareness events included distribution of leaflets about safety requirements in heavy vehicles ... The campaign which was (jointly run) by RTA's Monitoring and Enforcing Department Dubai Police and Ministry of Interior aimed at verifying the fulfillment of safety stipulations as well as drivers' compliance with instructions and controls."

About one million people were targeted with awareness messages via screens at service centres driving institutes and social media channels. E-mails were also sent out to public and private sector employees. Additionally awareness messages were displayed on some bridges in Dubai.

"The Road Travel Campaign ... bears the ... theme of a campaign launched by the Ministry of Interior titled 'Summer without Accidents'. It includes the distribution of awareness booklets to ... (motorists) about the proper steps and procedures to be taken to make travel a smooth experience" said Al Banna.

Traffic awareness supervisors have been deployed at key spots in Dubai to distribute awareness booklets. These include RTA customer service centres UAE outposts such as Al Ghweifat Border Post and main refueling stations on highways.

"The booklet contains information about the Customs Clearance Book and ways to use it; tourist certificate of vehicles and ... steps to get it issued; things travellers need to do in advance; tips for preparing vehicles; information about roads; international emergency number (112); and health emergencies that may be experienced by drivers" said Al Banna.
