UAE- RTA and MoI gear up awareness caigns for driving in summer

DUBAI 12th August 2015 (WAM) -- The awareness campaign launched by the Roads and Transport Authority RTA in Dubai in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior is picking up pace with the aim of creating awareness among motorists and road users about driving during the scorching summer heat.

In particular the campaign advocates exercising more cautious driving attitudes besides ensuring that vehicles are fully maintained and tyres are roadworthy.

"The summer awareness events are part of the annual operational plans of the Traffic Department which are focused on four awareness events; road travellers and truck drivers tyre safety periodic testing of vehicles and tips for driving during exhaustion" said Husain Al Banna Director of Traffic RTA Traffic and Roads Agency.

"The summer awareness events include the distribution of leaflets about safety requirements in heavy vehicles offering information about the safety of trucks and tyres. The campaign which was coordinated with RTA's Monitoring and Enforcing Department Dubai Police and the Ministry of Interior is aimed at verifying the fulfillment of safety stipulations as well as drivers compliance with instructions and controls related to trucks and cargoes.

"The summer campaigns include the transmission of e-awareness messages about the importance of maintaining vehicles to about one million drivers through television screens at customer service centers RTA social medial channels driving institutes and e-mails to employees of Dubai Government and the private sector in addition to some awareness messages displayed on some bridges in Dubai" added Al Banna.

"The Road Travel Campaign which bears the theme of the campaign launched by the Ministry of Interior "Summer without Accidents" includes the distribution of awareness booklets to travellers by road detailing the proper steps and procedures to be taken to make travelling a smooth experience" he continued.

"The campaign which is set to end by August 31st is based on the deployment of traffic awareness supervisors at key posts on the roads and the distribution of the Road Travellers Guide at the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE RTA Customer Service Centres UAE outposts such as Al Ghweifat Border Post and Border Posts with the Sultanate of Oman in addition to main refueling stations on highways in collaboration with the Dubai Police.

"We are keen to make the booklet a key reference for every traveller in order to ease the travelling experience to various destinations with the least possible exhaustion and hassles. As such the booklet contains information about the Customs Clearance Book as well as its issuer and how to use it the tourist certificate of the vehicle along with the formal procedures and steps of its processing main things to do by the traveller in advance tips about preparation of the vehicle information about the road international emergency telephone numbers and health conditions that might be experienced by the driver or accompanying travellers" the Director of Traffic concluded.
