(MENAFN) Bangladesh's trade deficit surged in the July 2014-June 2015 period, as a result of the rise in imports, registering a total of USD10 billion, 45.97 percent higher compared to 2014.
The country's import expense was at USD40.6 billion, rising to 11 percent in the last fiscal year, whilst exports income was at USD30.7 billion, up 3.3 percent in the same time frame.
Meanwhile, impact of the trade decline was reduced by remittances from nearly 9 million Bangladeshis living and working outside the country, with remittances standing at USD14 billion in the 2014-15 fiscal year.
