Saudi- Woman dies four men contract MERS in Riyadh


(MENAFN- Arab News) RIYADH: A 73-year-old woman died and four men were infected with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus in Riyadh bringing the total number of cases in the Kingdom to 1082 on Monday.
According to an official from the Ministry of Health all four cases including the dead were from the capital Riyadh.
The four new cases registered were men aged from 45 to 99 and two Saudi women aged 31 and 60.
Since June 2012 the MERS cases resulted in 473 deaths. More than 585 patients recovered from the illness. Twenty-two patients are currently being treated in hospitals throughout the Kingdom.
Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Khalid Al-Mirghalani told Arab News that the ministry has opened a 24-hour hotline (937) to help the members of the public on any matters related to the disease. He claimed that callers will be assured privacy and the authorities would offer their services as required through this line.
The official further explained that there are three major hospitals in Dammam Riyadh and Jeddah that have been designated as centers for the treatment of MERS patients. In addition to these facilities he said that the ministry has assigned 20 better-equipped hospitals all over the Kingdom to look after MERS casualties.
