Qatar- Demand for solitaire diamonds increases

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The demand for solitaire diamonds among customers has increased substantially in the last 6-12 months, according to leading jeweller Malabar Gold & Diamonds.
Solitaire is used to describe a single diamond or gemstone set into a piece of jewellery. Solitaire diamonds have emerged as the "perfect gift as well as a safe investment" among customers, according to the jeweller.
In addition to the demand for solitaire diamonds for engagement and wedding rings, there has been a rise in cases of solitaires being used as gifts to celebrate anniversaries and other special occasions.
"It is interesting to see the new trend of using solitaire diamonds, to celebrate fifth or 10th wedding anniversaries and special occasions, emerge strongly in the recent past among customers, especially those in the 25-40 age group," said Shamlal Ahmed, managing director (international operations), Malabar Gold & Diamonds.
"As a preferred jewellery retailer for diamonds, we have developed a new jewellery collection focusing on solitaires, besides showcasing a wide collection of loose solitaires of varying size, colour and quality."
The preference for solitaires can be attributed to their beauty as well as the fact their value appreciates in the long term, the jeweller points out.
"While buying a solitaire diamond, customers should ensure that they purchase it only from reputable jewellery retailers. One should also demand certificates for the diamonds from leading certification agencies like IGI or GIA," said KP Abdul Salam, group executive director, Malabar Gold & Diamonds.
