Kuwait- Labor Devolves Power On Security Nod

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Public Authority for Manpower has granted the directors of labor departments in all governorates the power to address Ministry of Interior for approving the issuance of work permits for laborers who require security approvals, instead of allowing only the director of Public Authority for Manpower to practice such a power, reports Al-Rai daily quoting informed sources.

They clarified that laborers of seven nationalities - Iraqi, Syria, Pakistani, Afghani, Yemeni, Bangladeshi and Iranian - require security approvals prior to issuance of their work permits. Meanwhile, the sources explained that the Acting Director of Public Authority for Manpower Abdullah Al-Mutawteh submitted a proposal to expand the grace period granted to laborers who are registered on suspended files marked 71, which have been invalid since beginning of August.

The extended grace period will allow a large number of laborers who were unable to rectify their status on time to do so within the period. They revealed that the proposal will be referred to Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning and Development Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh for approval. The sources said the Public Authority for Manpower is coordinating with Ministry of Interior to look into the files of about 33,000 laborers, indicating that the files of some of the laborers were closed in Ministry of Interior more than six months ago but they are still registered in Public Authority for Manpower with the aim of maintaining accurate statistics.
