Oman- Egyptian embassy celebrates opening of new Suez Canal


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Egyptian Embassy in Muscat on Monday organised an event to celebrate the opening of the new Suez Canal.

H E Ali al Jabari Undersecretary in the Ministry of Information was chief guest on the occasion. More than 300 people from the Egyptian community in Oman along with diplomats businessmen and other dignitaries attended the event held at the Oman Auditorium of Al Bustan Palace a Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

Addressing the gathering Hazem H Hanafi counsellor of the Egyptian Embassy in Muscat said 'Suez Canal is the heart and soul of the people of Egypt. The older one was build with assistance from the West. However the new canal has been built solely by the people of Egypt under the guidance of President Abdel Fatah el Sissi who launched the project in August 2014. The new canal which is 72km long is an extension of the old one. The new canal is expected to give a big boost to the Egyptian economy.'

A troupe from Ismailia which has performed at the Muscat Festival and the Royal Opera House Muscat enthralled the audience with its show.
