Secularism will prevail in India
(MENAFN- Arab News) This is with reference to the letter 'Memon or Kalam' by Shahid Rahman (Aug. 9). The writer has drawn the readers' attention to secularism in India by highlighting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi bending to touch the feet of Abdul Kalam during his funeral while Yakub Memon paying the price for the 1993 Mumbai blasts.
Enough has been said and written on the controversial hanging of Yakub Memon not only by Muslims but Hindus also. Former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju and a former CBI officer are some of the prominent non-Muslims who were against the execution.
Only the Hindutva forces supported it. But they should not forget that India is the land of pious and practising Muslims too whom Hindus respect.
However the writer's claim that Muslims in India will have to achieve greater heights to command respect merits attention. The writer has failed to mention that the likes of Modi will never accept Muslims until they read Hindu scriptures like the Bhagvat Gita daily like Kalam did or install idols at homes like Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have done.
The Hindutva forces to which Modi belongs to are not against Muslims as such they are against Islam and practicing Muslims.
There is however no need for Muslims to fear anyone except God. A poet has rightly said: 'Na ghabrao Musalmano Khuda ki zaat baaqi hai; Abhi Qur'an baaqi hai abhi Islam baaqi hai' (Do not fear O Muslims God is immortal; Qur'an is still there and Islam is still there.) Abdullah Muscat
