Greece, int'l creditors reach deal on new bailout

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Technical talks were concluded late last night in Athens on a multi-billion euro new bailout between Greece and its international creditors, according to an EU spokesperson.
A spokesperson for the European Commission, Annika Breidthardt, told a news conference that "the institutions and the Greek authorities reached an agreement in principle on a technical basis and talks are still going on finalizing details." The deal came after weeks of intense negotiations on the basis of euro summit statements of July 13 and on the basis of the work done between the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund and the Greek authorities, she noted.
She said that in the next step a political assessment will be made and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker had phone conversations yesterday with German finance minister Wolfgang Schauebler and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
Today he will speak to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francios Hollande, while deputy finance ministers of the eurozone are to hold a conference call later today to discuss the issue.
