Ukraine- Investigators find missile fragments in MH17 wreckage

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The teams investigating the downing of Malaysian flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine last year are looking at wreckage which may well have come from a Russian-made BUK missile system, Dutch media reported Tuesday quoting the public prosecution department in the Hague.
The parts were found during a previous recovery mission in eastern Ukraine and "are of particular interest to the criminal investigation as they can possibly provide more information about who was involved in the crash of MH17," the department said in a statement.
Investigators are now enlisting the help of international experts, among others forensic specialists and weapon experts, to determine what the parts actually are and their origin.
However, "at present the conclusion cannot be drawn that there is a causal connection between the discovered parts and the crash of flight MH17," noted the statement .
Two teams are investigating the downing of flight MH17. The Joint Investigation Team is carrying out the criminal investigation and the Dutch safety council is looking into the cause of the crash.
The JIT includes representatives of the Netherlands, Ukraine, Malaysia, Australia, the UK, US and Russia. They are meeting in The Hague to discuss a report on the causes of the crash.
The Boeing 777 was flying over Eastern Ukraine where the Ukrainian army was fighting Russian separatists when it was brought down, killing all 298 passengers in July last year.
