Qatar- World Youth Day activities today


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Ministry of Youth and Sports today celebrates World Youth Day under the theme 'Youth and Our Heritage'.

The Department of Youth and Sports organises activities every year to encourage young people to participate in the country's sustainable development.

This year, Qatar Philatelic and Numismatic Club, among other entities, is taking part in the ministry's activities.

The club will exhibit postal stamps since their inception in Qatar up to this year. The collection will also showcase stamps on sport themes, including Doha Asian Games 2006.

It will also hold a meeting to discuss youth issues and ways to solve them and will introduce participants to philately and tools and networks used by collectors.

Officials will present an overview of the history of postal services, first issue of stamps and how to develop the hobby.

Youth will also have the opportunity to see rare national and international stamps at the permanent exhibition at the club.

The cultural committees at Al Arabi Sports Club and Al Ahli Sports Club will also mark the day under the theme 'Engage Youth'.

Guest speakers will share experiences and encourage youth how to succeed professionally and socially in life.

Qatar Photography Society is holding an exhibition on various subjects.

An awareness lecture on Qatari heritage and traditional industry like pearling, fishing and dhows will be held in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage.

The United Nations General Assembly at its meeting on December 17, 1999 declared August 12 International Youth Day. The global theme this year is 'Youth Civic Engagement'.
