German youth unemployment lowest in Europe

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Germany has the lowest youth unemployment rate in the European Union thanks to a solid economic performance and the nation's changing demographics, data released on Tuesday showed, according to dpa.

The unemployment rate for those aged between 15 and 24 stood at 7.7
per cent last year, which was substantially lower than the average of
22.2 per cent for the EU, according to the country's statistics
office (Destatis).

The percentage of young people out of work in Germany has been
declining over the last decade, falling from 15.5 per cent in 2004.

About 330,000 people aged 15 to 24 years were unemployed in Europe's
biggest economy last year, the statistics office said.

Spain and Greece had the highest youth unemployment in the EU last
year with 53.2 per cent and 52.4 per cent respectively, Destatis
said.
