Kuwait- 'Gulf Cup Funds Deposited Into PAYS Account'

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Ministry of Finance is said to have deposited KD 5 million into the account of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports to meet the cost of organizing the 23rd Gulf Cup Football Tournament, reports Al- Anba daily.

In spite of this good news, the official warning received by the Kuwait Olympic Committee from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to suspend all sports activities in Kuwait after Oct 15, 2015, if Kuwait does not abide by the Olympic Charter and the laws of the International Sports Federations has come as a shock.

The IOC has said the independence of the sports movement should be ensured and respected and any arbitration should be done through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and not through local courts.

In the meantime, a senior sports official said the Saudi Football Federation has received a letter from the Kuwait Football Association Secretariat requesting initial approval for holding the tournament and considering the earlier decision of postponement as null and void, said Al-Shahed daily. The source added the Kingdom will take a decision soon in this regard, and the approval will be obligatory in the event a decision is taken by the government.

Meanwhile, the President of the Kuwait Football Association Sheikh Talal Al-Fahd has challenged the Public Authority for Youth and Sports and said the possibility of holding the tournament is 'half and half'. He has also refused to sign a pledge stating the Kuwait Sports Law will comply with the International laws.
