Saudi- New mechanism for numbering of buildings adopted
(MENAFN- Arab News) JEDDAH: The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs recently adopted a new mechanism for numbering buildings and facilities which involves installing unified plates bearing the number of the building and the name of the street in addition to the address recorded at the Saudi Post.
A barcode to be printed on the plate is linked with the global positioning system (GPS) to help quickly read the information of the subscriptions of the facilities local media reported on Monday.
Hamad bin Saad Alomar spokesman for the ministry said the new mechanism was implemented with the coordination of the Saudi Post.
'This new mechanism seeks to facilitate access to the specified addresses of houses and the addresses of excavation works of facilities to deliver the different services such as water and electricity taking into consideration the aesthetic dimensions and to prevent the disruption of the facade of buildings when a number of plates were installed affront' the spokesman said.
A technical committee consisting of the Ministry and Saudi Post members will implement the automated linkage between the systems he added.
'The officials at the Saudi Post and the secretariats agreed on entrusting the secretariats to embark on implementing the new mechanism. Work on the previous plates will be stopped and they will be amended in accordance with the new signed contracts' he said.
