(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) A mine attack carried out by outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in the southeastern province of Şırnak has killed four police officers, three days after an armed conflict between police and the youth wing of the PKK in the province.
The militants exploded a mine in the Silopi district of Şırnak as armed police vehicles passed while heading to the Başak neighborhood. Four police officers were seriously wounded and later succumbed to their injuries at hospital.
Security forces are conducting a wide-scale operation to apprehend the fleeing PKKmilitants after the attack.
On Aug. 7, one police officer and three people were killed in Silopi in clashes between police and members of the Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H) after police entered the same BaÅŸak neighborhood to recover trenches dug by YDG-H members to prevent the police's entry.
