Typhoon Soudelor kills 12 in E China


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Typhoon Soudelor, the 13th this year, has left 12 people dead and another 5 missing in Wenzhou City in east China's Zhejiang Province, local government announced.

Heavy downpours have caused mudslides and cave-ins in the city's rural areas, and several houses collapsed on Saturday night,China's Xinhua News Agency reported on Sunday.

According to officials with the city's flood control authorities, the dead and missing people may have been washed away by floods or buried under the collapsed houses.

Average precipitation in the city reached 228.4 mm as of Sunday noon.

About 1.36 million people in the city were affected by the typhoon, with a direct economic loss of 3.83 billion yuan (617 million U.S. dollars).
