Afghanistan: Police academy blast kills 8 in Kabul


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) A suspected suicide bomber targeted a police academy in the capital Kabul on Friday night, leaving at least eight people dead, police said.

According to a police official, the suspected bomber wore a police uniform and targeted cadets who recently returned from their weekend vacations; the cadets were lined up at the gate of the academy in Kabul's district 5 when the blast took place.

"At least eight bodies and several wounded students were taken to hospitals," the official said, adding that the toll may rise sharply.

According to the Afghan television news channel Tolo, the dead toll in the academy blast could be as high as 27.

Only three hours after the first attack, another huge explosion took place in police district 15, followed by gunfights and several other blasts.

Reportedly, the second attack targeted the Counter Narcotic Police Office.

Earlier on Friday, at least 15 people were killed and nearly 400 others were injured in a truck bomb attack in Kabul.
