Qatar- Applications for commercial plots sought

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has begun to accept applications online for the allotment of plots of land in one of Qatar's biggest industrial and logistics projects located in three places, namely, Southern Al Wakra, Birkat Al Awamir and Aba Salil.

The projects primarily aim at encouraging small and medium-sized entreprises (SMEs) and the plots of land to be allotted will be on nominal rent for setting up warehousing facilities for cars, assembly units, cold storages, shops and showrooms, commercial offices, labour camps, workshops, service centres and depots.

The last date for applying is November 9 (by 12 noon) and the lease contract for the plots will be for 30 years during which QR40 per sqm will have to be paid as rent annually. The logistics committee of the economy ministry yesterday announced that applications from companies (with commercial registration or CRs) for land allotment can be made through the website www.manateq.qa

When an applicant has filled up the form and specified the size of the plot required and attached the required documents (including a clear business plan for which the land is being sought) and agreed to the terms and conditions of lease agreement, he will receive a message saying that the application is successfully submitted.

That, however, does not mean that the application has been accepted and the applicant has met the required criteria for allotment.

Specialists appointed for the purpose will study the applications and they will decide the eligibility and allotment. Applicants must provide bank guarantee based on the size of the plot of land applied for allotment. In case the number of applicants are more than the plots of land available for allotment in each category (there are six categories), the allotment will be decided through lottery to be held publicly.

Aside from the lottery winner, two more nominees will be shortlisted as reserves for a plot in question. The winners will be announced through the media.

The projects include green spaces, including trees, roads, sanitation, sewage, accommodation for labourers, a centre for Civil Defence, parking for trucks and trailers, mosques, parking lots, and plots of land for supermarkets.

Smaller companies will be allotted plots admeasuring 1,000 to 2,000 sqm while medium-sized companies will be eligible to apply for plots of areas of 2,000 to 67,000 sqm.
