Trained by William Haggas in Newmarket the five-year-old son of Invincible Spirit is back to the Group-2 races after his unsuccessful campaign in the upper level. Having sprinted to a narrow victory in the Prix du Gros-Chene-Equidia Live Gr-2 at Chantilly on May 31st Muthmir failed to deliver in the King's Stand Stakes Gr-1 at Ascot and was just held by Goldream to finish respectable third. He started nicely and chased the leaders before being ridden and slightly bumped over one furlong out under pressure and he was always held by the winner. But Muthmir was well beaten by stablemate Muhaarar in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket three weeks ago. After taking a keen hold when the starter said go Muthmir was held up in touch by Dane O'Neil and ridden over two furlongs out without making any impression and plugged on the same pace from over one furlong out.

Elsewhere Shaikh Mohammed bin Obaid Al Maktoum is looking forward to build on his recent successes with a Gr-3 glory in the 12-furlong Betfred Glorious Stakes. Trainer Luca Cumani who has saddled Postponed to win the 2400m King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Friday under the strong drive of the shining star jockey Andrea Atzeni he went on to win the Sky Bet First Race Special Stakes for Shaikh Mohammed bin Obaid Al Maktoum in the hands of the retained jockey Adam Kerby on the opening day of the Glorious Goodwood. William Buick rides Johnny Barnes in the same race for trainer Charles Appleby in the royal blue silks of Godolphin but the powerfull stables did not support their runners' chances to fire and said: The best chance for the boys in blue in the week is the Saeed-trained Basem in the Betfred Mile a race that has been the four-year-old's target for some time. He is to be ridden by James Doyle who has an attractive book of rides for the week.
