Jockey held for shooting trainer


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)Jockey Ruben Rojas has been arrested by police in Delaware after allegedly shooting trainer Saul Matos following an argument on Wednesday.

Matos 38 was left with a non-life-threatening injury to his stomach after the incident which took place in the stable area on the backstretch of Delaware Park racecourse near Wilmington.

Rojas 30 fled the scene before dumping his handgun in a nearby creek according to police. The rider was later arrested and charged with assault possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and possession of a stolen firearm.

"(The suspect) fled in a vehicle which he had arrived in and he then fled from the area and in the process it was learned he had tossed a weapon that we believed was involved in the shooting out the window of the car and into a creek that runs through Delaware Park property" Delaware State Trooper Jeffrey Hale told WPVI television in Philadelphia.
