Qatar- Women's spas with massage services on rise

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) After the government recently barred beauty salons from providing massage services, there has been a significant surge in the number of women's spas providing these services.

These spas have been doing thumping business due to rising demand, largely because of increasing purchasing power of the Qatari community and the exploding population. There is a large influx of expatriate families as well amid exploding population fuelled by infrastructure development projects.

As per the record of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, there are more than 1,500 commercial registrations (CRs) for women's spas and beauty salons and the number has been increasing, reports Al Sharq.

The facilities have been springing up in different parts of the country and are not restricted to Doha and its suburbs.

Beauty parlours have also been mushrooming as the number of women has been going up due to more expatriate families arriving here. Invariably, all women's spa and beauty parlour businesses have been set up by Qatari businesswomen.

They, as a matter of the state's policy to empower women, are encouraged in all fields, including trade and industry.

CRs are issued for businesses by the ministry, which earlier banned beauty parlours to provide massage services. It has now outlined conditions for outlets applying for massage services as the services have been categorised as a semi-medical specialisation.

Netra Saeed, member of Qatari Businesswomen's Association, told Al Sharq that there is fierce competition among women's health wellness shops as they have been mushrooming all over. "Competition is prompting these facilities to improve customer services and interior décor. Some provide tea and coffee and even resting place to waiting clientele," she said.

Plus, these outlets are vying with one another in boasting the best equipment and quality products like creams, lotions and cosmetics, she added.

Qatari businesswomen have been able to dominate in the field due to encouragement from the government, Saeed said. "There is a huge spurt in demand for women's spas and beauty centres now."

Huda Hibbi, another Qatari businesswomen, told the daily that women are an active partner in Qatar's economic development, thanks to the backing provided by the government.

Banks are also playing a supportive role, providing loans to Qatari businesswomen and entrepreneurs, she said.

This is the reason why in recent times Qatari businesswomen have been able to successfully diversify into new businesses and launch new projects.
