(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) H E Sheikh Saad al Saadi the Minister of Sports Affairs felicitated the Oman cricket team at the sports ministry auditorium on Monday and hailed its achievement.
After handing over cash awards to the players and team officials H E Saadi said 'I am proud of the team for qualifying for the World Twenty20. It is a matter of pride as the team has achieved the distinction for the first time and is the only team from the region to qualify.'
The sports minister added 'We have been supporting the game and the Oman team and we will continue to back them. We will wait for Oman Cricket to submit its proposal for the team's training programme ahead the World T20 in India and will provide all possible help.'
All the players who took part in the ICC T20 Qualifier in Scotland-Ireland and the preceding ACC Qualifier in UAE received RO1000 each. Those who played in only the UAE event collected RO300 each.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by OC chairman Kanak Khimji secretary Madhu Jesrani and board members Pankaj Khimji Kiran Asher Dad al Balushi and Dilip Mehta. Also present were HEKhalfan al Naabi Advisor at the Ministry of Sports Affairs and Fahd al Raisi from the ministry.
