232 beauty salons raided in Abu Dhabi expired products seized

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)The Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM) has undertaken an inspection campaign on beauty centres and hair-cutting salons to check their level of compliance with the public health requirements in Abu Dhabi City and metropolitan districts.

The campaign resulted in the inspection of 232 hair and beauty salons where 36 expired items were detected three offences were reported 12 notices were served and follow up of five previous notices were done.

The municipality has already received two complaints relating to hair and beauty salons from the public.

The civic body noted that the less number of seized items from the centres indicates a high awareness level of staff of these centres which is a result of successful awareness campaigns and specialist workshops held by the municipality in the past.

The municipality commended the sense of responsibility of the owners of those centres and their awareness on hazards of using expired and fake cosmetic items. The campaign reported that some of these centres receive children and carry out hair-cutting and other services which is a clear breach of the law.

Several offences such as lack of cleanliness during evenings using expired or fake materials lack of attention on the condition of hair tubs and beauty of tools were also reported.

The municipality also intended to know whether the beauty salons centres and staffs were maintaining cleanliness health standards at the salons for children. It also sought to monitor henna decorations as it has serious health impacts if fake materials or tools were used. The civic body also monitored night exhibitions as part of their campaigns. It is now planning to hold more campaigns to promote awareness about these public facilities.

The municipality had conducted many training courses for the workers to get them familiarise with set health standards before they obtain licenses.

These programmes include sterilisation process essential in beauty salons to stop the spread of infectious diseases through used equipment. It also underlines the need to use non-rusting and high quality shaving tools which must be washed disinfected and sterilised after serving every customer.

The municipality is also keen on following up salons regularly to ensure that health and technical requirements are maintained to ensure the best health and safety standards.

Regulations include precautions that must be taken when using devices and laser treatment.

The regulations of the civic body also obligate owners of hairdressing salons and beauty centres to replace curtains made of cotton or other fabric with ones made of non-absorbent material.
