Patients shifted after hospital fire

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)Patients requiring critical surgeries in Sharjah's Kuwaiti Hospital have been shifted to other hospitals after three operation rooms were gutted in a fire recently.

The fire took place on July 26 due to a short circuit in the biggest operation room of the hospital which then spread to adjacent rooms an official from the Sharjah Police confirmed on Wednesday.

A top official from the hospital said a team from the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Ministry of Interior inspected the damage caused by the fire and estimated it to be worth Dh2 million. No casualties were reported in the blaze.

The patients requiring major surgeries have been shifted to Al Faraha Al Dhaid and Khalifa hospitals. However routine surgeries are being carried out at the hospital.

A top official from the MoH has been appointed to assess the damage and replace destroyed equipment.

Patients in other wards were not affected said officials.

Three other operation rooms that were due to open in March are still undergoing maintenance work.
